The importance of clinical and preclinical trials in drug discovery – the review by BIOMEDICA CRO
Research on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is taking place in many university hospitals, medical centers, and other institutions around the world. Each year, scientists find out more about what causes the disease, how to prevent it, and how to better treat it.
Despite advances in CLL therapy, there is still a significant unmet need in preclinical trials and the development of new drugs.
Many individuals living with chronic lymphocytic leukemia reported that their quality of life is impacted by side effects from current treatments. Moreover, both caregivers and their loved ones with CLL report concern about the lack of treatment choices if the current treatment stops working.
About 51% of health care providers agree that patients accept the side effects of their treatment because there are limited treatment options for CLL. From this fact, one may conclude that clinical and preclinical trials of drugs are an important element in the development of the pharmaceutical industry and improving human health and wellbeing.
For certain cancers, the American Cancer Society recommends screening tests in people without any symptoms, because they are easier to treat if found early. But for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), no screening tests are routinely recommended at this time.
Many times, CLL is found when routine blood tests are done for other reasons. For instance, a person’s white blood cell count may be very high, even though he or she doesn’t have any symptoms.

Eli Lilly and Company: “We’re sharing our survey results in hopes of raising awareness for the unmet need in CLL and helping those living with the disease live their lives more confidently, now and in the future.”
BIOMEDICA CRO is proud to participate in preclinical trials and research on new screening tests. We are ready to collect high-quality human biospecimens to provide scientists with all needed samples and associated data for their studies.
