Multiple Sclerosis research – scientists discovered a new technique for brain signals measurement – a scientific article review by BIOMEDICA CRO team

Multiple Sclerosis (MN) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects more than 2 million people worldwide. Researchers at the Institut de Neurosciences des Systèmes, Marseille, France and of the University of Naples Parthenope and the University of Campania, Caserta in Italy, have developed a new methodology to calculate the delay of signal propagations in the brains of patients who have Multiple Sclerosis.

The scientific group has developed a method to measure the delay that does not involve direct stimulation but uses the neuronal avalanches (bursts of activity happening in cascades) that spontaneously travel across the brain. This novel method can also be used to refine virtual brain models of patients to further increase the level of personalization.
“We are now able to add the time delay factor to these simulations, improving the diagnostic and predictive tools available to doctors and their patients,” explains Pierpaolo Sorrentino, lead author of the study.

Please find more information in the Journal of Neuroscience, research articles, “Whole-brain propagation delays in multiple sclerosis, a combined tractography – magnetoencephalography study”.

BIOMEDICA CRO – prospective and retrospective collection of high-quality biospecimens for research

BIOMEDICA CRO has provided prospective and retrospective collections of the numerous human biospecimen types and associated clinical data since 2017.

We manage our own network of 50+ direct contracts with hospitals in many therapeutic areas and are ready to make a new one if necessary. The access to neurology departments allows us to supply biospecimens from donors with various neurological disorders, such as:

• Multiple Sclerosis;
• Alzheimer’s Disease;
• Schizophrenia;
• Anxiety;
• Panic Disorders;
• Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome;
• Healthy control group – age-gender-BMI matched to diseased patients, etc.

In addition to human biospecimens, we can obtain precise clinical data, laboratory test results and other valuable information from each donor.

BIOMEDICA CRO operates within the strictest ethical guidelines. It means that all clinical materials are exclusively obtained after approval of the Institutional Review Board or the Independent Ethical Committee (IRB/IEC) as well as all donors are mandatory consented and signed the Individual Consent Form.

Our team is proud to participate in preclinical trials, in-vitro diagnostics and drug discovery. We will be happy to cooperate once you need an additional supplier of biospecimens for your research.

Please email us to start our collaboration: office@biomedica-cro.com / LinkedIn.

Feel free to place a request for human biospecimens.
