New types of cancers can be identified via liquid-biopsy-based multicancer early detection (MCED) – the latest scientific article review by the BIOMEDICA CRO team
Data from a retrospective study presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2023, held on April 14-19, found that a liquid biopsy-based multicancer early detection (MCED) test could identify 12 types of cancers, even low DNA-shedding cancers and early-stage cancers.
The authors conducted a retrospective case-control study to evaluate the test’s ability to recognize 12 cancer types in a group of around 4,000 individuals, including those newly diagnosed, treatment-naïve cases and non-cancer controls matched by age and gender.
Finally, the research team reported: “This platform allowed for a higher signal-to-noise ratio and led to increased performance in the more challenging applications where the cfDNA burden is the lowest. Cancers that shed a high amount of cfDNA had the best performance, but even cancers that are typically difficult to detect with cfDNA assays were detected with high performance in this interim readout”.

BIOMEDICA CRO team collects biospecimens & associated data while YOUR focus is on cancer research
Ben Ho Park, a presenter of the previously mentioned study, stated that further prospective research is required to confirm the results. The BIOMEDICA CRO team is here to support your research every step of the way!
We do biosample procurement through a broad network of partnered hospitals in Ukraine and supply them globally. We provide both prospective and retrospective collections of the numerous human biospecimen types and associated clinical data since 2017.
Currently, we have our own network of 50+ direct contracts with public hospitals in Ukraine in many disease areas and are always ready to make a new one if necessary. Our main area is oncology studies, so blood sample collection from cancer subjects is an easy task for us.
We may initiate a prospective collection according to your unique specifications and Inclusion and/or Exclusion criteria. The most common cancer types we have access to are the following:
- Colorectal cancer (CRC);
- Lung cancer;
- Kidney Cancer;
- Breast cancer;
- Head & Neck cancer;
- Thyroid cancer;
- Uterine/Endometrial/Cervical cancer, etc.
The maximum volume of whole blood is 40-50 ml per blood draw from 1 donor, depending on the patient’s state of health. The sample range includes but is not limited to fresh blood, whole blood, single-/double-spun plasma, serum, red cells, buffy coat, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
At BIOMEDICA CRO, we maintain constant interaction with clinical sites and principal investigators (physicians) and are always available to provide you with up-to-date collection feedback. Direct communication with physicians ensures that they understand the collection process completely, resulting in high-quality biospecimens.
