New targets for drug development against Osteoarthritis – the review of the latest research articles by the BIOMEDICA CRO Team
According to recent reports, researchers have identified a particular group of sensory neurons responsible for causing joint pain and inflammation in individuals with Osteoarthritis. This discovery offers a promising avenue for pain management treatment.
“There is a shortage of therapeutic agents that specifically target Osteoarthritis pain, which is a huge problem throughout the world. By providing a mechanism through which pain is produced in the disease, we provide new targets for drug development,” said Richard Miller, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology and a co-author of the study.
Furthermore, the research group demonstrated how molecules like the nerve growth factor receptor TrkA can sensitize the Piezo2 response in the disease, meaning that Piezo2 can produce pain more easily under pathological conditions such as joint degeneration. Based on the research, focusing on Piezo2 could be an effective approach to managing the pain caused by Osteoarthritis.

BIOMEDICA CRO – a trusted source of human biospecimens for Osteoarthritis and other research projects
At BIOMEDICA CRO, we are aimed to organize the collection of various types of human biospecimens from healthy and diseased subjects following your scientific needs. We have built a strong network of 50+ direct contracts with hospitals since 2017 and are always ready to make a new one if necessary.
As for Osteoarthritis research, we can involve subjects who come to a traumatologist for the prosthetics and collect the different types of biosamples & associated clinical data as a part of the prospective project, for example:
- Whole blood;
- Single-/double-spun plasma;
- Buffy coat;
- Serum;
- PBMC;
- Synovial fluid (SF);
- Other types of samples can be discussed.
In addition, there is a diverse selection of ready-to-ship biosamples in our Inventory obtained form subjects with Osteoarthritis (OA).
It is an honor for BIOMEDICA CRO to help investigators conduct pre-clinical trials and biomarker discovery by supplying human samples. Our team will be happy to start our cooperation once you need an additional source of high-quality specimens for your research.
The biospecimens procurement process is easy with us! Please email us to start our collaboration at office@biomedica-cro.com / LinkedIn to learn more about our services and how we can support your project.
