Atopic Dermatitis Samples from BIOMEDICA CRO Used in Research

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases, affecting millions of people worldwide. Although remarkable progress has been made in understanding the disease, researchers continue to investigate the molecular mechanisms responsible for chronic skin inflammation and the development of new targeted therapies.

High-quality atopic dermatitis samples are essential for translational research, allowing scientists to study disease biology directly in human tissue rather than relying solely on experimental models. Human skin biospecimens provide valuable insights into immune responses, cytokine signaling, and inflammatory pathways that drive disease progression.

At BIOMEDICA CRO, we support pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology organizations, and academic researchers by providing ethically sourced atopic dermatitis skin samples for preclinical and translational research. One example of this collaboration is our contribution to a published study conducted by Novartis Pharma AG, demonstrating how high-quality human biospecimens help advance dermatology research.

πŸ”¬ Why Are Atopic Dermatitis Samples Important for Research?

Atopic dermatitis is a complex immune-mediated disease characterized by skin barrier dysfunction, persistent inflammation, and abnormal immune activation. Multiple cytokines and signaling pathways contribute to disease progression, making human tissue an invaluable resource for studying these biological processes.

Unlike laboratory models, human atopic dermatitis samples preserve the complex interactions between skin cells, immune cells, and inflammatory mediators. This allows researchers to better understand disease mechanisms and evaluate potential therapeutic approaches under conditions that closely resemble human biology.

Today, atopic dermatitis skin samples are widely used to:

  • βœ… investigate inflammatory pathways involved in eczema;
  • βœ… study cytokines associated with type 2 immune responses;
  • βœ… evaluate biomarkers for disease activity;
  • βœ… validate novel therapeutic targets;
  • βœ… support drug discovery and translational immunology research.

Access to well-characterized human skin samples remains one of the key factors driving innovation in dermatology and inflammatory disease research.

πŸ“° BIOMEDICA CRO Contributed to Published Novartis Research

A recently published study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology highlights the importance of high-quality atopic dermatitis samples in advancing immunology research.

Scientists from Novartis Pharma AG, representing the Immunology Disease Area and Discovery Science groups at Novartis Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland, investigated the role of the cytokine IL-26 in type 2 skin inflammation.

Their research demonstrated that IL-26, when acting together with IL-1Ξ², significantly enhanced inflammatory responses within human skin tissue. Specifically, the researchers observed increased production of several important inflammatory mediators, including TSLP, CXCL1, and CCL20. These findings improve our understanding of the molecular pathways involved in chronic skin inflammation and may contribute to the development of future therapies for patients with atopic dermatitis.

The publication acknowledges BIOMEDICA CRO as one of the providers of human AD skin samples used in the study. These samples were utilized in ex vivo experiments to investigate inflammatory responses in human epidermal tissue.

We are proud to have supported research published in one of the world’s leading dermatology journals by supplying human atopic dermatitis samples used in the study. Collaborating with global pharmaceutical companies on innovative research projects reflects our commitment to supporting scientific discoveries through reliable access to high-quality human biospecimens.
