Liquid biopsy and metastatic Prostate cancer screening – the review of the latest scientific news by BIOMEDICA CRO
A liquid biopsy is a new approach that promises to detect cancer earlier and enable doctors to monitor response to treatment more quickly.
The MPCproject is a first-of-its-kind data-gathering initiative launched in 2018 by collaborators at the Broad and Dana-Farber to understand better MPC’s genetics and biology, which can drive different disease patterns. While most cancer research trials rely on direct tumor biopsies, the MPCproject also leverages blood biopsies containing cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from the tumor floating in the bloodstream.
The MPCproject steps and results:
• Website creating – researchers made a website to enroll cancer patients through an online consent and release form.
• Informed consent – patients signed the consent to study staff obtaining a portion of archived tumor tissue and/or a blood sample for further sequencing analysis.
• Patient-reported data – patients completed a 17-question survey asking them about themselves and their disease.
• Acquisition of medical records – medical records were obtained for patient partners from the U.S. and Canada who completed the consent and medical release forms.
• Acquisition of patient samples – all consented patient partners were mailed saliva or blood biopsy kits (optionally) with appropriate instructions and a sample tube for further sequencing.
• The last step – testing samples and analyzing the patient-reported data.
The research group drew the following conclusions:
– 45% of patient partners report being diagnosed with de novo metastatic disease, with bone (48%) and lymph node (39%) lesions as the most common metastatic sites;
– 48% of patient partners reported a family history of Prostate or Breast cancer, while 24% reported having at least one other cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, 30% of which was a non-skin form of cancer;
– The average age at diagnosis was significantly younger than the national average (61 versus 65 years old) and 24% of participants were diagnosed with early-onset Prostate cancer (≤55 years at diagnosis), etc.

Blood and other biospecimens collection by BIOMEDICA CRO for your research
BIOMEDICA CRO provides both prospective and retrospective collections of the numerous human biospecimen types and associated clinical data since 2017.
Today we have already collected more than 112000+ samples through a broad network of partnered hospitals in Ukraine and supplied them globally to scientists from different pharmaceutical companies and research centers.
Our main area is oncology – Breast, CRC, Ovarian, Prostate, Head & Neck, Stomach, etc. cancer patients can become donors for your research. Besides oncology, we have 50+ contracted clinical sites in a broad range of disease areas.
Due to our business model and direct communication with Primary Investigators, you will get the highest quality of human biospecimen and insurance that all project details follow.
For instance, we can provide the following types of blood samples:
• Whole blood;
• Serum;
• Buffy coat;
• PBMCs;
• Red sells, etc.
BIOMEDICA CRO operates within the strictest ethical guidelines.
It means that all clinical materials are exclusively obtained after approval of the Institutional Review Board or the Independent Ethical Committee (IRB/IEC) as well as all donors are mandatory consented and signed the Individual Consent Form.
