A significant anti-cancer effect of the carbon monoxide foam was detected while working with human biological samples – the latest scientific article review by the BIOMEDICA CRO team 🔬🎗
A team of researchers from the University of Iowa has developed a new drinkable foam that contains carbon monoxide, which has been found to enhance the effectiveness of cancer therapy.
The team conducted tests on mice with Pancreatic and Prostate cancers by feeding them the carbon monoxide foam while simultaneously treating them with an autophagy inhibitor. In doing so, the researchers found that the tumor growth and progression in the animals was significantly reduced. Moreover, the team also tested the carbon monoxide foam with autophagy inhibitors in human biological samples, especially in prostate, lung, and pancreatic cancer cells, which showed a significant anti-cancer effect in petri dishes.
The researchers are now hoping to test this approach in human clinical trials. According to Brian S. Soper, a professor at the University of Iowa, the results from this study are promising as they suggest that therapeutic levels of carbon monoxide can increase the anti-cancer activity of autophagy inhibitors, thereby opening up a new approach to improve therapies for many different cancers.
