NEW insights on the early detection of asymptomatic Alzheimer’s disease patients – research article review with biospecimens provider BIOMEDICA CRO 🧬
In this cross-sectional study involving 4413 non-Hispanic white individuals screened for the anti-amyloid treatment in asymptomatic Alzheimer study, those with a maternal history of memory impairment showed higher neocortical β-amyloid levels compared to individuals with only a paternal history or no parental history. When analyzing the age at symptom onset in parents, only a paternal history of early-onset memory impairment (onset before age 65) was linked to elevated β-amyloid levels, whereas maternal onset at any age was associated with increased β-amyloid levels.
Reisa Sperling, MD, a co-author of the paper, principal investigator of the study, and neurologist at Mass General Brigham, stated that these findings could soon be applied in clinical practice for early diagnostic and disease prevention measures.
“This work suggests that maternal inheritance of Alzheimer’s disease may be a crucial factor in identifying asymptomatic individuals for ongoing and future prevention trials,” Sperling said.

Are you looking for a partner to conduct your research? BIOMEDICA CRO is fully prepared to provide you with biospecimens & data from subjects with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and patients with other neurodegenerative diseases 🩸 🔬
BIOMEDICA CRO has provided both prospective and retrospective collections of the numerous human biospecimen types and associated clinical data since 2017. We manage our own network of 50+ direct contracts with hospitals in many therapeutic areas and are ready to make a new one if necessary.
The access to neurology departments allows us to organize biospecimens collection from patients with various disorders, including but not limited to the following list:
- Alzheimer’s disease;
- Parkinson’s disease;
- Multiple sclerosis;
- Vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, Frontotemporal dementia;
- Stroke;
- Schizophrenia;
- Anxiety and Panic disorders;
- Post-traumatic Stress syndrome, etc.
Although we mainly take part in the prospective customized studies, we also acknowledge that having banked biospecimens already collected, stored and available for use allows certain research studies to be performed quicker and easier. Thus, we also offer a wide range of banked specimens, including FFPE blocks, frozen tissues, whole blood, plasma, serum, buffy coat, rest blood, PBMC, urine, saliva, and more. All these biospecimens are collected from diverse patient populations and are carefully processed and stored to maintain their integrity and usability for research purposes.
