Prospective collection of biospecimens from Traumatic Brain Injury donors by BIOMEDICA CRO.

Researchers from the University of Waikato conducted a study of people who had experienced one or more Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and the symptoms they were experiencing eight years later. To learn more about the fate of those who experience mild TBI events, the researchers obtained data from about 1,300 people.

In looking at the data, the researchers found the following:

• approximately one-third of those who had completed the survey reported experiencing negative associated symptoms eight years later;

• women seemed to fare worse than men, that is unexpected. Women with mild TBI events were twice as likely to experience PTSD or other health problems that they believed were related to their concussion, than were men;

• women who had experienced more than one Traumatic Brain Injury event were more adversely impacted than were men who had multiple events or women who had experienced only one event.

The researchers conclude by suggesting that injury management for people with mild Traumatic Brain Injury events needs to be improved, both in the short and long term.

Please find more information in the Plos One journal, research article, ”Sex differences in outcomes from mild traumatic brain injury eight years post-injury”.

A lot of research has been done on moderate and severe TBI but little has been done to learn about the health implications of those who experience mild TBI.

BIOMEDICA CRO is ready to provide biospecimens and associated clinical data from patients with various diseases, including Traumatic Brain Injury.
Since 2017 we participate in pre-clinical trials, drug discovery, and other scientific investigations. Our team has good experience in the collection of different types of samples and is ready for the new challenges. From TBI subjects it is feasible to obtain blood (plasma / serum / buffy coat / PBMC), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), urine, stool, saliva, swabs, etc.

Due to our business model and direct way of communication with clinical sites you will get the highest quality of human biospecimens and insurance that all project details are followed.
